Laura Kirar is founder and creative director of two companies, TRU
Design, in New York City, specializing in high end interior design,
and LKDL Miami, which focuses on product design and licensing. Under
her direction the companies incorporate the talents of her staff and
longstanding relationships with specialized vendors and manufacturers
to produce projects that combine the desires of her clients and her
particular vision. A designer with the soul of an artist, Kirar approaches
each new project with ingenuity uncommon in the industry. Each Laura
Kirar project is unique, however the common thread of luxurious materials,
elegant details, and timeless design remains Laura Kirar's signature.
A Fine Arts graduate from the prestigious School of the Art Institute
in Chicago, Kirar began her career in design with Holly Hunt in Chicago.
After moving to New York in 1995 to work as a furniture designer in
the residential interiors field and in retail design with the likes
of Ralph Lauren Home, Kirar founded her firm, TRU, in 1999.
Kirar's early independent project, the Jenne Maag store, one of the
first high end boutiques in NoLiTa was published by Interior Design
Magazine in 2000. The firm continues to work on compelling projects
including a Bowery loft renovation, a family
compound in Rumson, New Jersey, a townhouse on the Upper West Side and
the Greenwich Village apartment of a well-known Broadway actor. Kirar's
diverse client list also includes a spa rebranding project for Westin
Hotels and multiple product licensing awards. Her largest contract is
with the venerable Kohler Companies with whom she launched a 30 piece
bath collection for Kallista in 2005, a 14 piece casual seating collection
for McGuire Furniture and a complete lifestyle collection of over 150
pieces for the home for Baker Furniture in 2006 and Ann Sacks tile collection launching in the spring of 2007. Her other licenses
include residential and contract product with Boyd Lighting, Carnegie
Fabrics, David Edward Company, Dennis Miller and Touhy Contract Furniture.
